Treatment of skin- and venereal diseases, allergy and varicose veins
ETHNIC DERMATOLOGY The practice primarily focuses on the treatment of the pigmented skin. Over the past 20 years much knowledge has been accumulated through the practice in Amsterdam Zuidoost. The pigmented skin, with its different physiology and very different biochemical composition compared to the Caucasian skin, requires its own specific approach and treatment. Also knowledge of the different cultures is important in the treatment of patients with coloured skin. This website aims to propagate the dermatological problems of the coloured skin and to ensure the use of the accumulated knowledge for the benefit of skin disease patients with coloured skin. Because art and culture have a positive interaction between people of different cultures, an attempt will be made, through examples from different cultures, to increase interest in the other cultures. Freddy F.V. Hamerlinck studied medicine at the Universiteit van Amsterdam (University of Amsterdam) where he graduated in 1986. From 1987 to 1991 he specialized in dermatovenerology at the Academisch Medisch Centrum (Academic Medical Centre) in Amsterdam. Since 1991 he has been working as a dermatovenerologist in Amsterdam-Zuidoost. The book ‘Efflorescenties van de gepigmenteerde huid’ (Efflorescences of the pigmented skin) was published in 1998. In 1999 he obtained his PhD at the University of Amsterdam with a thesis on ‘Serum neopterin as an immunological marker of disease activity in inflammatory diseases.’
